Prayer Ministry

Prayer & Fasting

Prayer and fasting are spiritual disciplines that help believers set aside distractions, seek God more intentionally, and devote focused time to prayer, Scripture, worship, and spiritual reflection.

Foundation

What Is Fasting?

Biblical fasting is the voluntary setting aside of food, selected foods, activities, or distractions for a spiritual purpose. Fasting is not simply going without something. The time set aside should be redirected toward prayer, Scripture, worship, repentance, listening for God, and spiritual renewal.

Purpose

Why We Fast

Believers fast to seek God with greater intention. Fasting does not guarantee specific outcomes, and it is never a substitute for faith, obedience, or pastoral wisdom.

  • To draw closer to God
  • To seek wisdom and direction
  • To strengthen prayer
  • To practice spiritual discipline
  • To humble ourselves before God
  • To focus on repentance and renewal
  • To intercede for others

Guidance

Ways to Fast

These examples are flexible and non-prescriptive. Restoration Ministries does not require a single fasting plan. Choose an approach that is realistic for your season of life and health.

Partial food fast

Set aside certain meals while continuing to eat at other times.

Selected-food fast

Limit specific foods for a season while keeping a nutritious, realistic plan.

One-meal fast

Skip one meal and devote that time to prayer and Scripture.

Media or entertainment fast

Step back from entertainment so attention can return to worship and reflection.

Social-media fast

Pause social platforms to reduce distraction and create room for prayer.

Personal-distraction fast

Set aside a habit or activity that regularly pulls focus away from God.

Important

Health and Safety Notice

Fasting involving food may not be appropriate for everyone. Anyone who is pregnant, nursing, managing diabetes or another health condition, taking medication, recovering from illness, or concerned about fasting safely should consult a qualified healthcare professional before changing their diet or fasting routine. Children and teenagers should fast only with appropriate parental and professional guidance.
