Kingdom Reign

Matthew 6:10

Matthew 6:10

"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

Jesus taught His disciples to pray for the Father's kingdom and will. This prayer lifts our eyes beyond personal wishes to God's righteous rule. The kingdom came near in the ministry of Jesus: He announced good news, confronted evil, healed the suffering, and called people to repent and believe. Through His death and resurrection, He is exalted as Lord. To pray “Thy kingdom come” is to welcome His reign over our own lives and to long for the day His rule is seen in fullness.

The prayer also asks that God's will be done on earth. We cannot sincerely pray those words while refusing His instruction in our relationships, work, and private decisions. Kingdom life grows as we submit to the King, pursue righteousness, show mercy, and seek first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33). This does not give us permission to claim control over other people. Jesus taught His followers to serve rather than dominate. His authority is displayed through truth, justice, humility, and sacrificial love.

Choose one place where you have been praying for change while resisting God's direction. Perhaps you need to forgive, speak honestly, care for a neglected person, or correct an unfair practice. Ask the Father for His will, then obey the part He has made clear. Pray also for the church and the world: for the gospel to reach hearts and for justice and mercy to be visible among God's people. The King who taught us to pray will help us live as citizens of His kingdom today.
