Divine Favor
Psalm 5:12
"For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield."
David ended Psalm 5 with confidence in the Lord's favor, but the psalm began with a cry for God to hear his voice. He faced opposition and needed the Lord to lead him in righteousness. Favor here is the care of a holy God for one who takes refuge in Him. David did not use it as permission to imitate the deceit or violence he opposed. He asked the Lord to guide him along a straight path and trusted Him to surround the righteous with His blessing.
Through Christ, believers are made righteous before God by faith and invited to draw near for help. The picture of favor as a shield reminds us that God's care is personal and protective. It does not mean no hard conversation or loss can reach us. David's own prayer arose in the midst of conflict. He trusted the Lord to hear, guide, and uphold him there. We can ask for protection and fair treatment while refusing bitterness, revenge, or dishonest ways of securing an outcome.
Bring the situation that makes you feel exposed before God today. It may involve a difficult relationship, an unfair accusation, or uncertainty about provision. Ask Him for favor and a straight path through it. Speak truthfully, keep your responsibilities, and seek appropriate help where needed. Then entrust your reputation and future to the Father. His favor is a reason to walk in integrity with courage, even when you cannot control the decisions of others.
